Feb 9: Join IABC/SC for a guided tour of the new USC Journalism School
It’s a fact. Business communicators are inextricably linked to journalists and the media outlets that hire them.
With that in mind, The South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators invites you to a tour and Q&A session at the new J-School at the University of South Carolina’s College of Information and Communication. Dean Charles Bierbauer and Elizabeth Quakenbush, the College’s Senior Director of Development, will guide attendees through the state-of-the-art facility and discuss how the changing global economy impacts training for future reporters, editors and producers.
Charles Bierbauer, Dean, College of Information and Communication
Dean Charles Bierbauer joined the University of South Carolina faculty and administration in 2002 after a more than 30-year-career in journalism. He’s lived in seven other countries and reported from scores. He received a 1996 news and documentary Emmy for CNN coverage of the Olympic Park bombing. As dean, he oversees both the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Library and Information Science which were united as a single college in 2002. In 2009-10, he served as the university’s interim vice-president for communications.
Elizabeth Quackenbush, Senior Director of Development, College of Information and Communication
Elizabeth Quackenbush has more than twelve years of fundraising experience and raised millions of dollars for non-profits such as Harvest Hope Food Bank and Volunteers of America of the Carolinas. Preceding her fundraising career, Quackenbush was assistant producer for the Peabody-award winning WTBS documentary series “Portrait of America.” She co-authored “Crisis: The Last Year of the Carter Presidency” by Hamilton Jordan, former chief of staff for President Jimmy Carter and edited “The Nickel Run” by philanthropist Cindy Nord.
